Sizing up the offensive line

Jacquizz Rodgers and the OSU ground game chalked up 1,990 yards in 2009, thanks to an offensive line that caught stride mid-way through the season. In their first season as starters, freshman left tackle Michael Philipp and sophomore left guard Grant Johnson performed better than expected. With Gregg Peat being the only loss in the starting five, OSU looked to have an experienced and strong offensive line heading into the 2010 spring until the returning four were cut to just two for spring ball.
Off-season surgery for Grant Johnson and a fluke knee injury that required arthroscopic surgery for Michael Philipp gave guys like Michael Lamb, Burke Ellis, Timi Oshinowo, and Wilder McAndrews a chance to show what they could do.
Here's how the line progressed this spring:
TACKLES
Entering Spring: B-
Michael Philipp was a freshman all American in his first season of college ball and the sky is the limit for the San Bernardino native. A big body (6-3 313) matched with nimble feet give Coach Cavanaugh a lot to work with in the coming years. Philipp was sidelined nearly the entire spring, but is expected to return healthy and earn back his starting spot and should improve with a year of experience.
