PATTERSON -- This coming weekend is a very big weekend in terms of the Recruiting Class of 2012 for Sonny Dykes and the rest of the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs.
One of those visitors making his official trip to Ruston this weekend is a speedy wide receiver that would fit in great in Tony Franklin's pass-happy offensive attack.
Say hello to Jaydrick Declouet.
A three-star prospect according to the latest Rivals.com rankings, the 5-10, 170-pound wide receiver out of Patterson High School is rated as the 39th-best overall player in the State of Louisiana according to Rivals.com after the post-season of prep football.
Although he has been committed to the University of Houston since September 9th of this past year and remains committed despite the coaching change, Declouet still has offers on the table from Tech, Houston, Kansas, Louisiana-Lafayette, Memphis, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Southern Mississippi, Tulane, Central Florida and Vanderbilt.
"Yes sir I'm actually leaving Friday morning for Ruston," Declouet said. "Let me say out front right now yes I am still a Houston commitment but I am making other visits to see what is out there and if I need to make a change. Louisiana Tech is definitely one of the schools that I am taking a hard look at this weekend to see if they are really the right place for me.
"The reason I'm making the official up there is (assistant coach) Pierre Ingram. He has stayed in constant contact with me throughout the recruiting process and he and I have developed a good relationship. Coach Ingram is a good guy. Even before I committed to Houston and even after I committed to Houston Coach Ingram continued to stay in touch with me even when other schools started to back away and cut off all communication. He continues to show that he wants me and that really means a lot. He has basically said that it is not going to hurt to come see what Louisiana Tech University is all about and I should come up to Ruston to really check it out. That's what I'm doing. I'm taking him up on his offer. If I like what I see I may change my mind and make a different decision."
While the want is there from Tech to Declouet, the Patterson wide receiver admitted that there is also a lot that he likes about the Bulldog program as well.
"Absolutely," Declouet said. "I like Tech and what they are doing a whole lot. There are several former Patterson players that went to Louisiana Tech and they all had nothing but good things to say about their experiences. For me personally I watched them in the Poinsettia Bowl against TCU and I was really interested in how explosive they try to be offensively. Watching their bowl game they really seem to be an offense that throws the ball a whole lot and as a wide receiver that is what you like to see.
"So when I'm in Ruston this weekend I just want to talk with the rest of the coaching staff and just see what they are all about. Get to know them better you know? I was able to talk to them for a little while when they came and talked to me on campus but unfortunately not for as long as I wanted. That is another reason that I just want to come up here and see how I would fit in. I want to see if the relationship with the rest of the coaching staff would be as positive as the one I have with Coach Ingram. Tech is definitely still in the running for me and I'm very interested in them. Let's just see how the visit goes."
Purdue, Illinois, Arizona State, and Louisiana-Lafayette are the other schools that could be getting the remaining of Declouet's official visits according to him.
