Danny Ezechukwu: Tough name for a tough player
Lithonia, Ga. defensive end Danny Ezechukwu may have a difficult name to pronounce (eh-ZEH-choo-kwoo) but there are plenty of offensive linemen that know exactly how to say it.
The Arabia Mountain senior has heard plenty of mispronunciations.
"The best one was one Friday night, the PA announcer said 'Tackle made by Danny Eze-Woo-that's-a-tough-one'," Ezechukwu said with a chuckle. "Everybody got a laugh out of that one. I just laugh when I hear them try."
Ezechukwu said he's received several offers but three stand out thus far --- Troy, Iowa State and Duke.
"I like Duke's academics. They have a great school," Ezechukwu said.
"Iowa State has done a great job of communicating with me. Troy is really close to home. I know some of the guys down there and know how hard they work so I like the way Troy does things."
Whatever school gets his commitment, Ezechukwu feels they will be getting a player willing to do anything asked of him.
"They'll be getting a coachable player," he said. "I want to win so I'll do whatever I need to do to win."
The 6-2, 235-pound Ezechukwu says playing at the NFL level is on his radar and Troy's history for putting stars like DeMarcus Ware and Osi Umenyiora opened his eyes.
"It definitely gives them extra points because I would like to be next on that list," Ezechukwu said. "I know that the coaches are putting out top-notch talent so if I do go there it helps my chances of getting to the NFL."
Ezechukwu is a good pass rusher that plays the run better than the average prospect at his position. He will benefit from a college weight room and could be a steal if he continues to fly under BCS school's radar.
