Listen: Coach Danny Hope before practice
Ryan Russell's injured knee didn't need an MRI, Purdue coach Danny Hope said Sunday before practice.
Russell initially tweaked his knee on Tuesday leading into the Eastern Michigan game, Hope said, but was able to practice on Friday and "looked good."
But in the third quarter against the Eagles, Russell was chasing a play from behind and got blocked at the knees. He limped to the sidelines and didn't come back into the game. He gingerly walked off the field after the victory.
"I think Ryan is going to be just fine," Hope said. "He's in good shape."
Apparently Russell wasn't the only injury concern heading into Eastern Michigan.
Defensive tackle Kawann Short[db] also was limited in practice during the week with "some sprain to his knee." Cornerback [db]Ricardo Allen (ankle) also was a bit questionable.
All players played.
Allen had three tackles, Russell had a sack and two tackles for a loss, and Short had one tackle for loss.
"We came out of the ballgame in good shape from an injury standpoint and having the off week will allow us to heal, recover and re-energize," Hope said.
