NFL Boilers: Edwards released
Kyle Charters
GoldandBlack.com The Falcons released Ray Edwards on Monday evening, marking the end of a less-than-remarkable season-and-a-half tenure in Atlanta.
Edwards had very little production this season, during which he had gradually lost his starting job before almost falling out of the rotation all together. Atlanta media has labeled Edwards a bust, which is hard to dispute. He had only 3.5 sacks in his 25 games as a Falcon, after signing a $25-million free agent contract.
A day before pleasing the fans in the Louisiana Superdome with a win over Atlanta, Drew Brees spent time with one in particular.
The former Boilermaker QB met fan Katy Blake at the Saints' practice facility; Blake was paralyzed in an accident a couple years ago, and said she was inspired by Brees' book, which helped her through the dark times.
Rob Ninkovich is becoming of the best playmakers on the Patriots' defense.
Lions defensive end Cliff Avril hopes to be cleared to play this week after suffering a concussion at Minnesota.
He was injured in the third quarter and missed the remainder of the game.
Danny Watkins might be healthy this week after missing the last three Eagles' games with injury.
What's that mean?
Dennis Kelly might lose his starting spot, or he could move to his natural position at tackle.
