First two offers for Florida wide receiver
Oakland Park (Fla.) Northeast wide receiver Xavier Reese has good size at 6-foot-3 and he's got the ability to go with it. He has been patiently waiting for his first offer throughout the spring and now he has found his first two.
"I just wanted to let you know that I picked up my first two scholarship offers," Reese said. "Coach McDonald at Minnesota offered me and I talked to the head coach, Coach Jones at Central Michigan. It feels good. It's a long time coming right now. I'm glad I'm getting respect."
Reese is still learning about the two northern programs but he has a serious interest in both.
"I know a lot about Minnesota," he said. "I like Coach McDonald, the receivers coach a lot. I've been talking to Coach Azzanni, the wied receivers coach at Central Michigan. They like big receivers and I'm the only one in Florida they're recruiting. Coach Jones, he was a wide receiver in the NFL so he knows what he's doing."
Despite the distance, Reese will not be shied away from a program outside of the southeast.
"It doesn't matter really," he said. "Whatever school best fits me will be where I go. It's just the first two schools that have offered me."
Beyond Central Michigan and Minnesota, Reese is hearing from several other programs.
"Right now I'm hearing a lot from Vanderbilt, Kansas State and Connecticut," he said. "So far I've got phone calls from Coach Scott at Troy, Coach Stayton at Michigan State, Coach Williams at Purdue, Coach Leonard at Kansas State and also coach Partridge from Wisconsin. Those are some of the ones I can think of."
Reese also has plans to take some summer visits to check out some campuses.
"Most likely I'll try to get flown into Central Michigan," he said. "I'm going to Louisville for sure. I'm trying to Vanderbilt's camp in Tennessee with Coach Fisher."
Reese also has an idea of what he will be looking for in a school during the process.
"I'm looking for what schools really recruited me early because I know more offers are coming in," he said. "I'm looking at what schools are interested in me early and I'm looking for what schools will be good as far as academic-wise and depth chart for playing time."
