April 13, 2011Men's basketball assistant coach Mike Jackson, who's been suspended since Feb. 9, has resigned.
Jackson, who was in his first season at Purdue, was arrested Feb. 2 on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and endangering a person; he pleaded guilty to the OWI charge and was sentenced March 25 to probation.
Nevertheless, Purdue announced Wednesday Jackson has resigned.
"I want to thank Coach (Matt) Painter and his staff, as well as Morgan Burke and Purdue Athletics, for the opportunity to be part of such a well-respected program," Jackson said in a released statement. "I enjoyed my time at Purdue, and I'm looking forward to the next chapter in my career."
Jackson came to Purdue from Michigan, where he coached under both Tommy Amaker and John Beilein. In West Lafayette, he replaced Rick Ray, who became associate head coach at Clemson.
Jackson's departure now leaves Coach Matt Painter with two vacancies on his three-man staff; last week, associate head coach Paul Lusk became head coach at Missouri State.
Jack Owens is currently the only assistant coach on the job right now.
Painter said Monday night he wouldn't be announcing any new staff members until next week.
