August 29, 2011A.J. Jefferson is rumored to be a lean to this school and that school. Everyone claims that they have an inside edge on Jefferson and knows where he is headed except one person, A.J. Jefferson.
The 6-foot-4, 220-pound defensive end from North Pike High School in Summit, Miss. is pretty outspoken about where everything stands.
One of the things that Jefferson is quick to point out, if anyone claims they know what he is thinking, then they don't really know him. He is only focused on one thing right now, his senior season.
"Right now there are still four schools I am considering - Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Southern Miss and ULL," Jefferson said. "None of those schools have a lead, and all four have the same chance to get me. I haven't even thought about narrowing my list down yet, and I won't until after my senior season. I will sit down then and worry about recruiting. My team comes first. I don't even know myself who has a lead because I haven't even thought about it yet."
Speaking of Jefferson's North Pike team, they are off to a 1-1 record in this early season. Jefferson has lived up to a lot of those lofty expectations. Along with teammate Vernon Butler, the two make up a very good tandem on the D-line for the Jaguars.
"Well we lost our first game," Jefferson said. "We made a ton of mental mistakes in that game. We beat ourselves. Franklin County took advantage and beat us. I had about 16 tackles in that game. In our second game, we beat Wesson. I had 17 tackles and two sacks in that game. We played some new players and got everything back on track.
"It's big to play alongside Vernon. He is a great player. I told him he needs to go out this year and play with a chip on his shoulder and show everyone how good he is. Next week we are playing Germantown. I can't wait. I think if we play hard and play our best we can win that game."
