Hummel named MVP
Senior Robbie Hummel was named Purdue's Most Valuable Player Thursday night at the team's annual postseason banquet.
"It's a huge honor in the sense you're voted on by your teammmates," Hummel said, "because those are the guys you want to impress. It's great to have fan support and media support, but at the end of the day, your teammates are the ones you want to impress because you're around them the most and go through the trials and tribulations with. It means a lot to me in that sense and I'm thrilled they voted me that."
Hummel took home other honors Thursday night, as well.
He was given the team's Rebound Award for leading the Boilermakers in rebounding and the Courage Award for drawing the most charges.
Point guard Lewis Jackson won Pudue's Assist Award, named for Bob King, for the third time in his career, and the Doc Combs Play Hard Award for the first time.
D.J. Byrd won his second consecutive Ray Eddy "Mr. Hustle" Award, while Ryne Smith was given the Lambert Award for having the highest GPA on the team over the past two semesters, posting a 3.59.
