May 29, 2012Senior receiver Antavian Edison's felony charges have been dropped, according to Purdue.
Edison was arrested earlier this month at home in Florida after police found a gun and ammunition in the car he was driving, according to police reports obtained by the Fort Myers News-Press. Edison's uncle, a convicted felon in Florida, also was in the car.
Edison filed a written plea of not guilty on May 11, according to Lee County court records, and initially had an arraignment scheduled for June 4. As of Tuesday, the case's status was marked "closed" in the court records, though it had yet to be marked "dismissed" in the disposition category.
But, according to a release by Purdue, charges of carrying a concealed weapon were dropped.
"We are pleased to know that Antavian's name has been cleared of any wrongdoing," Coach Danny Hope said in a statement. "Those of us who know Antavian always believed it was a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time."
Edison is on campus and enrolled in Maymester, Hope has said. He's expected to be on the field in 2012, a boost for the Boilermakers considering he's the team's leading receiver.
