Purdue started its nearly two-hour practice outdoors on Thursday, allowing its players a chance to feel the "elements," breezy and chilly conditions on this day. Then Darrell Hazell moved the practice inside after 13 periods.
Inside, in the final last-play-of-the-game drill, both sides of the ball had some success.
When the offense had the ball on the 25-yard line, safety Taylor Richards intercepted Danny Etling in the end zone and Race Johnson batted down an Austin Appleby "Hail Mary" type of pass.
But the offense owned the portion of the period once the ball hit the 5-yard line and in.
Shane Mikesky made a snag and tapped both feet in at the side of the end zone with a perfectly thrown pass in good coverage for the first TD. Then, Dolapo Macarthy reached over the top of a DB for a highlight-reel snag for another touchdown, prompting him to rip off his helmet in celebration. Fullback Kurt Freytag, little-used recently on offense in games, released for a 1-yard TD catch on the next play. On the final one of the period, Raheem Mostert busted up the middle for a TD run.
Hazell spoke with reporters after practice, before hopping on a plane to talk to some high school coaches over the next couple of days.
