Hoops season was in full formation last week for WSU as both the men's and women's teams engaged in conference play and the swim team traveled to the other corner of the country to take on Florida International. Several athletes presented worthy performances for consideration, so without further ado, may we present our candidate for CougZone Athlete of the Week….

The swim team traveled across the country to take on Florida International in a swim meet and Kiwi senior Jane Copland helped make the trip pay off by capturing two wins in the 444-339 victory. Copland won the 200-meter individual medley and the 200 breaststroke.

The men's basketball team split their conference opening series - losing to Arizona in Spokane but defeating Arizona State in Pullman. Sophomore point guard Derrick Low led the Cougars for the weekend, averaging 12 points per game in the games while grabbing a combined seven boards with six assists and four steals.

In women's hoop, the Cougars' lost both games on the road - a close loss to Arizona and a somewhat larger loss to Top 10 Arizona State. However, senior center Keisha Moore stepped up, nearly averaging a double-double - 15.5 points and nine boards per game - in the weekend series, while also adding five blocks. Her efforts against ASU were especially noticeable as she scored a game and career-high 20 points against the Sun Devils - nearly half of the Cougars' entire offensive output particularly in the game against the Sun Devils. For her performance, Keisha Moore is the CougZone Athlete of the Week.
