HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Jeremy Wise scored a game-high 26 points as Southern Mississippi beat Alabama State 74-61 Tuesday night.

Wise scored 21 of his points in the first half as Southern Miss (2-0) took a 42-32 lead at halftime. The Golden Eagles used a 12-2 run midway through the first half, with Wise getting six points, to break open a close game.

Wise was one of four Golden Eagles in double figures, as R.L. Horton scored 16 points with 10 coming in the second half. Stephens and Courtney Beasley added 13 apiece.

Trumaine Baker led the Hornets (0-1), the defending regular-season champs in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, with 13 points, while Andrew Hales and Brandon Brooks added 12 points apiece.

USM was 17-of-18 from the free throw line.
