Things came together between Purdue and wide receiver late in process

Purdue struck another blow against its urgent need at wide receiver with the addition of KeyRon Catlett, a 5-foot-10, 180-pounder from Christian County High School in Hopkinsville, Ky.

Catlett, who committed over the weekend but announced Tuesday, is another former Western Kentucky who's following Jeff Brohm to Purdue.

In his case, it came together last weekend, when Purdue invited him to campus for an official visit.

Catlett was reluctant to visit without having a Purdue offer in hand. That offer came through on Thursday. He committed Sunday at the end of the visit.

He joins linemen Jalen Jackson, Giovanni Reviere-Hightower and DeShon Washington, tight end prospect Darius Pittman and DB Kenneth Major - his high school teammate - as those Western Kentucky recruits who've switched to Purdue.

Catlett said he was drawn to playing for Brohm at Purdue.

"He's a very honest man and I knew he wouldn't lie to me as a recruit," Catlett said. "He always kept it real with me."

The 5-foot-10, 185-pound wide receiver was drawn to Western Kentucky in part because of its offense, that same offense Brohm will be installing in West Lafayette.

"They throw the ball a lot and everybody gets a chance to make plays," Catlett said. "They really spread the ball around and I like that."

And, there's opportunity at Purdue, where few proven players return at wide receiver.

"I talked to (wide receivers coach JaMarcus) Shephard," Catlett said, "and he said he has no starters in his mind right now."

Catlett said he figures to fit in as a slot receiver.

"They like what I can do with the ball in my hands," he said. "I think I have pretty good vision and I'm fast. When I catch the ball, I'm pretty good at navigating through traffic and doing a lot of things."

Catlett also held an offer from Marshall, among others, while still committed to the Hilltoppers.
