Safety Parker marks departure No. 8 from Purdue

Safety C.J. Parker is the eighth player to depart the Boilermakers this offseason, announcing his intention on Monday afternoon.

The senior should be able to be immediately eligible elsewhere, for his fifth season, provided he graduates this spring. Parker, a former J.C. transfer and part-time starter for the Boilermakers, didn't play in '17 after suffering an ACL tear while trying to make a tackle in the spring.

Working his way back in for 2018 might have been a challenge, considering Purdue has two returning starters at safety in Jacob Thieneman and Navon Mosley, plus backup T.J. Jallow.

Parker joins offensive linemen Jalen Jackson and Tanner Hawthorne, running backs Brian Lankford-Johnson and Jack Wegher, linebacker Sawyer Dawson and defensive back Josh Hayes plus defensive tackle Eddy Wilson as scholarship players who are not returning.

The 6-foot-1 Parker made five starts in 2016, collecting 35 tackles, three for loss and an interception, after transferring to Purdue from Mount San Jacinto J.C.
