But, Purdue isn't a Top 15 program. Maybe Top 25.
Precisely. Missouri was long known as a basketball school... until Quin "coked out of his head" Snyder took a wrecking ball to what Norm Stewart built. We may have never won a NC, but we were a force in the conference and competed with KU year-in, year-out.
The pluses for the jump is a lot of money runs through the program. Look at Gary Pinkel; he's among the highest paid coaches in D1 football. Our facilities can compare to most of the top institutions in the country... I worked for the AD when our basketball stadium was built; it's comparable to what NBA players enjoy. And--to me this is the biggest thing--it's easier to win in the Big 12 than the Big 10 right now. Outside of KU (and sometimes Texas), the conference is kind of down.
All of this said: I see this as many of you--a ploy to get a significant bump in his pay. I don't blame Painter in the least, seeing what he's getting paid in comparison to other coaches of simialr success.
In the end, Cuonzo intrigues be BIG TIME because of his ties to St. Louis, which has become a recruiting hot bed. I know that he has a lot of cache with AAU coaches in the area; that alone interests me.
It will be interesting to see how things shake out... thanks for letting us visit your board!
