About Hummel: The one horrific stark memory that will always live in the nightmares of every Boiler fan. We were killing Minnesota on the road. I remember turning to my son and saying: The Gophers look like card board cutouts as we raced to a stiletto like 14 point first half lead. And then in a flash,the worst seen ever--Hummel writhing on the floor. And because of that Purdue never got to see what it could do with all its power released in the NCAA. It is nice to dream that with Robbie, JJ, Moore, LJ and Smith, etc we would have won it all or been in the Final Four at least--maybe twice. We were cheated by these injuries of the glory we all hope for. BUT despite that this kid fought thru everything and never quit playing at the top of his game and forged with LJ and Smith a final run now that may not be done. They are playing at a high level now, completely in sync and it is wonderful to watch. It just shows what spirit, hard work and courage will do and these 3 had it all despite the dreams that crashed that Feb in Minnesota. Here's hoping maybe something sparks and this team does the best of them all, even with the odds against them and JJ and EM in Boston. We can root and hope and I will.
