Welcome to "BOILING OVER," our weekly information-clearinghouse feature meant for GoldandBlack.com subscribers, and GoldandBlack.com subscribers only.

The rules are simply these: This information - sometimes delicate in nature - is to remain on this board and this board only. Subscriptions will be canceled over this.

Thanks for your cooperation.

It is ridiculously early, mind you, but we continue to hear from those close to the situation that Purdue is in very, very early - and we can't stress early enough - position with Eron Gordon. Every indication to this point has been that the 2016 prodigy's focus has solely been on in-state programs and at this point, there's a general expectation he and his family will be content to look within the state when push comes to shove.

Butler is right in the thick of this thing, too, from what we're told.

But again, he's not even played a high school game yet, so next week, it could be completely different for all we know. (BN)

From what we were told at adidas Wednesday night, Purdue is all in on trying to add Boston University fifth-year transfer Jake O'Brien to next year's team. Why wouldn't it be? Purdue has scholarships sitting open, an inexperienced crop of power forwards beyond D.J. Byrd and a microscopic senior class that could be helped out by another veteran.

Purdue and another school - can't remember who - have been out in front in this and Clemson is now a player, also.

O'Brien's a skilled 6-foot-9 forward who was averaging about 12 and six boards as a junior in 2010-11 before hurting his foot, having surgery and missing last season.

He's graduated from BU, so he's eligible to play next season under the fifth-year graduate eligibility allowance. He's leaving the Terriers, because they're switching to the Patriot League this year and ineligible for the conference tournament in their transitional year. As you know, at that level, no conference tournament title = no NCAA Tournament hopes whatsoever.

I know this is like the ninth time we've said this since the spring, but Purdue would seem to have a good shot here. (BN)

A little more on Wednesday's football commitment …

Attending a smaller prep school in Arlington, Myles Norwood appears to have flown under the radar, garnering offers from only smaller schools until getting one from Purdue during his visit Tuesday.

But had he waited to commit ? the wide receiver chose the Boilers Wednesday ? he might have had bigger school options; Oklahoma State and Washington State had shown interest. But Norwood didn't want to wait, and was more than happy with Purdue.

"I was going to make my decision before the season," he said. "I wasn't going to wait, just because the recruiting process was a pain already. I didn't want to have to think about it during the season. Just going up to Purdue really made my decision easy.

"Purdue compared to the Georgia States, Western Illinois and Texas States, it doesn't really compare to them. They're not in the same class." (KC)

Keree Renchie, a Texas linebacker who visited Wednesday, came away from Purdue liking the Boilermakers. And it seems only a formality that he'll get an offer in the coming days; Danny Hope only needs to see his junior film, it seems.

And when an offer comes, Purdue might shoot right to the top of Renchie's list. A couple of fellow Texas natives ? by his description, we figure Cody Davis is one - made good impressions during the visit.

"I'll take my time with it, but for sure it is a top school right now," he said.

That said, there's a lot of time left. Renchie is likely to want to make other visits ? he called Purdue his first, although he'd gone to junior days ? and will take officials. He said Purdue is very likely to be among those.

No sure how seriously Purdue is recruiting him beyond extending an early offer, but 2014 big man Jabari Craig did say last night that he corresponds with Purdue regularly via social media, so Purdue at least has a presence there, in addition to having offered.

We have no idea how good Craig is - the extent of what we saw last limited was limited to pre-game warm-ups - but he passes the look test, being 6-10 and really long.

That said, Purdue will take a commitment from Tyler Wideman if he's to offer one and this is looking like only a three-man class. We wouldn't expect Purdue to take more than one big man, not counting Vince Edwards or Keita Bates-Diop as 'big men.' (BN)

We can tell with near certainty right now that Purdue will not take another 2013 recruit, at least not during the early period. If scholarship space should come available for the spring, then that possibility always exists, but in terms of rising seniors right now, we wouldn't expect any additions to go along with Bryson Scott, Kendall Stephens and Basil Smotherman.

That doesn't mean Purdue will stop watching 2013s, because there's always the option of trying to stash a player in prep school for a year if it's worthwhile. (BN)

Quarterback Danny Elting committed in April, then watched his stock skyrocket over the summer. He earned a fourth star to his Rivals.com ranking, then was named to the prestigious Elite 11 quarterbacks camp.

It stands to reason that other schools might come calling.

"Danny is pretty committed to Purdue," Terre Haute South coach Mark Raetz said Wednesday night. "He's said all along that he's given his word to that school and that's what he plans to stick with. And I think (other) schools respect that and I think he's handled that situation very well."

We'll have more from Raetz on Elting next week. (KC)

Wednesday's unofficial visit from Chicago Simeon three-star offensive lineman Kendall Moore was rescheduled for today.

Purdue has not yet offered, but if it does, it's our understand that the Boilers have a great shot there. So that visit could be very significant.

Moore claims other offers from Illinois, Indiana, Western Kentucky, Western Michigan, Iowa State and Miami (Ohio).

According to some past updates, Illinois has been interested in him as a D-end, but we're pretty sure Purdue is recruiting him for offensive tackle. (BN)

Pre-Italy practices start for the basketball team next week. We plan to have quite a bit of coverage from some media opportunities set up early next week. Just FYI.
