Welcome to "BOILING OVER," GoldandBlack.com's weekly Ultimate Ticket information-clearinghouse and analysis column meant for our subscribers and our subscribers only.

We appreciate everyone's cooperation in helping us keep what is sometimes delicate information confined to this message board.

We certainly don't want it to come to this, but if there are problems, subscriptions have and will be canceled over this.

We know there are a lot of blogs out there and a lot of you are on Twitter and other message boards, and we don't want to come off like Darth Vader here, but we would be doing all our subscribers a disservice if weren't proactive about protecting the value of their subscription. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

A couple changes to the list of official visitors for this weekend's Penn State game: Pennsylvania wide receiver Brian Lemelle and Georgia linebacker Kight Dallas are no longer visiting. They were tentatively expected to. Each were also tentatively scheduled for visits earlier this season as well, but those fell through, too.

That leaves the following official visitors among those coming this weekend: commits Myles Norwood and Parker Cothren; Florida safety Justin Williams; New Jersey defensive tackle Ra'Zahn Howard; Kentucky wide receiver Ryan Timmons; and Florida running back Lorenzo Woodley.

This weekend could yield commitments.

Woodley has long spoken very highly of Purdue and has clearly been looking forward to this visit for some time. Purdue has recruited him heavily while many of the other major programs who offered him early haven't been quite as persistent, for whatever reason. We would not be surprised one bit to see him give the Boilermakers their third running back commit for 2013 this weekend. The Miami native didn't rule out the possibility earlier this week. He has no other visits set up.

Speaking with Howard, he is a possibility as well. It is hard to tell what is reality there. The New Jersey native is in prep school in Atlanta and says Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, etc., have offered him, but we've been unable to confirm that via our colleagues who cover other schools. Doesn't mean it's not true; it wouldn't be completely unprecedented for a player that highly recruited to slip through the publicity cracks like that, but it doesn't happen often.

Either way, Purdue is bringing him in this weekend, telling him he can help replace Kawann Short and presumably hoping to get him committed as a mid-year enrollee. The Boilermakers need defensive tackles bad.

Juniors visiting this weekend: Alabama linebacker T.J. Posey and Illinois running back Mikale Wilbon, among others. Posey and Wilbon have each been offered already. (BN)

As we first reported Tuesday night, Randy Gregory decommitted from Purdue. Was it a surprise? Not really. He'd told us all along that he was committed to Purdue and planning to sign there and all that was true up until Tuesday night. But where there's smoke …

There's no sugar-coating it: It's a huge loss for Purdue's class. The Boilermakers need help at defensive end and Gregory is a top-tier talent athletically with the flexibility to play outside linebacker and three years of eligibility.

It was surprising to see other programs ? or at least so many of them ? not only keep after him, but get after him, when he's not even playing right now, but he is that caliber of athlete when healthy.

The quote-unquote elephant in the room with recruiting right now is obviously Purdue's situation. This season has not gone as planned and Danny Hope's job is very much in jeopardy.

Gregory, who we've always enjoyed covering because he's actually honest, sometimes too much so, said without prompting that was a factor in his decommitment, but so too was negativity among fans.

We usually don't feel comfortable directly quoting text message exchanges, but Gregory did say, "I just hate how I feel like the Purdue football team can't please any of these fans no matter what they do."

We know that quote is going to draw a reaction, but before your primal urge to rip anything and everything in sight kicks in ? yes, that's sarcasm, so please don't take offense ? consider too that this weekend after the Minnesota game running back commitment Keyante Green went after a critical fan on Twitter defending the coaching staff he's committed to.

The point being: This stuff affects recruiting. It just does. And right now it is.

We're not trying to stick up for or protect anybody here, but rather just trying to provide some perspective on the realities of recruiting.

If you don't think recruits see the venom being posted online, whether it be message boards or social media, or if you don't think visitors hear it when fans boo or blast players and coaches at games, then you're just wrong. And if you don't think it affects them … it does.

No one's pointing fingers here, but we cover recruiting and right now, these two topics are inextricably linked.

Is everything just peachy right now aside from Internet criticism? Of course not.

The situation is what it is. There are huge questions about the program right now, questions that will have to be answered in coming weeks.

But in the meantime, it has to be business as usual for Purdue, on the field and in recruiting. The environment is making the latter very difficult. (BN)

On the 2104 basketball recruiting front, Purdue is working to bring in center Jabari Craig for an official visit in January, the thought presumably being that Craig, being from Canada, is not well accustomed to college basketball atmospheres and the impact of a game day might be worthwhile. The SEC has come into the picture in full force on Craig, with Clemson and Auburn being among the many on him now, but as we've reported many times, Purdue was the first school to really get on him and has positioned itself well.

It will be interesting to see if Purdue takes a similar approach toward official visits with Vince Edwards, Keita Bates-Diop and other '14 targets in terms of trying to get them in for in-season official visits or rather next fall, closer to the signing date when you can spend more time with the players, but without the benefit of full-fledged practices or game atmospheres for them to be part of.

Bates-Diop and Edwards won't be deciding any time soon, we're quite certain. Edwards has a target date of after his junior season to decide, but target dates often come and go. Bates-Diop, we don't think, is anywhere close. Illinois is going to be a real factor there, but so will Purdue and Michigan. (BN)

Wing Vic Law of Chicago St. Rita visited Purdue Sunday and the visit went well, but Purdue did not offer yet. Head coach Matt Painter needs to see him during the season first, from what we've been told.

DePaul hosted Law shortly thereafter and did offer.

Law recent blew up at a camp and is now ranked 60th in his class by ESPN.com. (BN)
