Welcome to "BOILING OVER," GoldandBlack.com's weekly Ultimate Ticket information-clearinghouse and analysis column meant for our subscribers and our subscribers only.

We appreciate everyone's cooperation in helping us keep what is sometimes delicate information confined to this message board.

We certainly don't want it to come to this, but if there are problems, subscriptions have and will be canceled over this.

We know there are a lot of blogs out there and a lot of you are on Twitter and other message boards, and we don't want to come off like Darth Vader here, but we would be doing all our subscribers a disservice if weren't proactive about protecting the value of their subscription. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

Not sure what else we can tell you about the search for Purdue's next football coach that we haven't already.

We can tell you with certainty that Purdue came into the process with Butch Jones at Cincinnati as a prime target and that has/will conduct an in-person meeting with the Bearcat coach this week. We have not been able to pin down the exact day and would rather post incomplete information than inaccurate information.

We also can not pin down whether Jones has actually been offered the job. Sometimes schools withhold offers until they have a good sense of what the answer will be.

But as we've reported, Jones is considered a motivated mover this hiring season due to some apparent frustrations at Cincinnati and the recent tumult in the seemingly crumbling Big EAST. Jones is believed to want the biggest job he can get, though, so we'll see if he factors in to the search at Tennessee, also.

We've beaten the Butch Jones drum here quite a bit, but we're quite certain he is not Purdue's lone consideration. He's just the one consistent name that comes up with everyone we talk to who has any idea what they're talking about.

I'll reiterate: There's so much BS to sort through in situations like this that it's difficult to differentiate between what's real and what's coaches, agents and intermediaries just pushing themselves to get their names out there.

We do believe there will be some NFL influence on this search.

Randy Fichtner, a Purdue alumnus who's the Pittsburgh Steelers' quarterbacks coach, is a name we've brought up and there could be something there, given some of the ties he has to search advisers Ryan Grigson and Rick Smith.

But Fichtner doesn't have head coaching experience and Morgan Burke sure made that sound like an important element in this. Also, Burke very much labeled Purdue ties as a "tie-breaker" as opposed to a deal-breaker, so his associations to the program might not be a big deal in the big picture.

Burke's mandate on Sunday night boiled down to two things: Offense and quarterback background and head coaching experience being very much preferred.

Considering the presumption that the NFL landscape will be well covered in this search, there is a coach out there who fits those criteria: Atlanta Falcons OC Dirk Koetter.

Koetter wants back in to the college scene as a head coach, after he was one of the coaches who got the whole Boise thing rolling, which he parlayed into the Arizona State job, where he had some success but ended up getting fired.

We have no reason to think Koetter is being considered, but we're just dot-connecting here.

Everyone we've asked in the industry about Koetter at Purdue have given more or less a, "Could definitely see that" sort of response.

Regarding Sonny Dykes, another focal point during the initial phases of the search, he's obviously going to have his choice of jobs. We'll see if Purdue can get an interview. We do know at least that Dykes has done some legwork on the Purdue job, inquiring with people who know it well.

We'll see on that one, but if Purdue somehow gets Dykes, it would be considered a colossal upset. (staff)

Obviously there is no compelling recruiting to cover right now, but Purdue's existing commitments must now sit tight. We know they're communicating with each other, with David Yancey seemingly one of the ring-leaders there.

We know some schools are going to come at Keyante Green. Whether they'd be better options than coach-less Purdue right, we don't know.

We wouldn't be surprised to see Purdue lose Ra'Zahn Howard. His commitment was an abrupt, and sort of strange, one, and there has been a disconnect there between the recruiting attention he says he's received and the notoriety he's gotten. Howard is flat-out convinced he's one of the best defensive tackle recruits in the country and will tell anyone who'll listen. He says he's committed now to Purdue, but he is definitely taking visits - Connecticut this weekend ? and he will be under the gun to make a decision since he's going to enroll mid-year. He only has a couple weeks here.

As for Danny Etling, he remains firmly committed from what we've been told. That doesn't mean that can't change with a recruit if they don't like the next coach or it doesn't seem like a good fit, of particular concern to quarterbacks.

But right now, he's in. There was an infrastructure in place with his decision to commit to Purdue. Proximity to home, family connections, academics, etc., mattered to him. It wasn't only about coaches.

When Burke talked about the Cradle of Quarterbacks and finding an offensive coach at the press conference, he might not only have been talking to prospective candidates. He might have been talking to Etling, as well. (BN)

Not sure how many visitors Purdue will have for Saturday's Xavier game, which would seem like a great visit opportunity. Many Indiana kids have games that day and many of the players Purdue is recruiting in Chicago will be at the Chicago Elite Classic at UIC. We'd have been there, too, had Keita Bates-Diop still been in play. Oh well.

As for Vince Edwards, he tweeted that he wanted to come, but doesn't have a ride.

The family has some distractions, for lack of a more appropriate term, right now.

Edwards' older brother, Bill Jr., a junior at Miami (Ohio), just tore his ACL and will be undergoing surgery. (BN)

Join us tomorrow at 2 p.m. for 'Gold and Black LIVE,' our weekly Internet show. Our guests will be CBS Sports pundit and dear, dear friend of GoldandBlack.com Jerry Palm and a quarterback named Robert Marve.

We will ask Jerry with a straight face about what circumstances will have to unfold for Purdue and Marve to play in the BCS championship game next month.

It will be riveting television, but actually the fact that Marve will join us should make for a good show.

Showtime is at 2 p.m. If you miss it, you need to do two things: 1) take a long look in the mirror and do some soul-searching about your priorities and 2) catch the replay, which will be posted around dinner time. (staff)

Also, for those of who simply can't get enough of the soothing sound of Kyle Charters' voice, be sure to tune in Monday morning at 10 a.m. for our new feature, 'Gold and Black Radio.'
