Welcome to "BOILING OVER," GoldandBlack.com's weekly Ultimate Ticket information-clearinghouse and analysis column meant for our subscribers and our subscribers only.

We appreciate everyone's cooperation in helping us keep what is sometimes delicate information confined to this message board.

We certainly don't want it to come to this, but if there are problems, subscriptions have and will be canceled over this.

We know there are a lot of blogs out there and a lot of you are on Twitter and other message boards, and we don't want to come off like Darth Vader here, but we would be doing all our subscribers a disservice if weren't proactive about protecting the value of their subscription. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

As mentioned earlier this week, Purdue is heavily involved in the recruitment of 6-9, 235-pound Ricky Doyle from Bishop Verot in Fort Myers. He joins Alec Brennan and Jabari Craig as big men Purdue is very seriously recruiting for the Class of 2014.

That's not to say those are the only bigs on the radar - Sean O'Mara is still out there; we wouldn't rule out Mack Mercer; and there are undoubtedly more - but those three guys are three Purdue seems to be putting priority-like time into.

Michigan and Miami are all over Doyle, Bishop Verot coach Matt Hertling said earlier this week. Ohio State, Boston College and Notre Dame are very involved as well. Virginia and Penn State were slated to see him this week, and we believe Purdue saw him this week, as well.

"He's a big, old 6-9 kid and a good athlete with size 18 feet," Hertling said. "His dad played (professionally) for 13 years in Europe. He's a very good back-to-the-basket player, maybe the best back-to-the-basket player in the country."

Doyle's missed 21 games this season due to a foot injury and only returned recently. In the first three games he'd played, he averaged 24 points and eight rebounds, playing only two-and-a-half quarters or so per game, Hertling said, as he gets back in game shape.

Doyle is very academic-oriented and we've heard he might be partial to the Big Ten, for academic and style-of-play reasons.

"Purdue would seem to have as good a chance to get seriously involved as anybody," Hertling said. (BN)

Purdue will have its first-ever junior day under Darrell Hazell on Sunday, as you know, and we'd expect upwards of 40-50 juniors, sophomores and even freshmen to be on campus for the Northwestern basketball game.

We don't think there are any players coming that already have Purdue offers, but you never know who might just show up.

Some highlights:

Dylan Thompson: The Illinois defensive lineman has offers already from Ohio State, Illinois, Indiana and Vanderbilt and will get one from Purdue this weekend.

Chance Sorrell: The Middletown (Ohio) tight end is Vince Edwards' high school basketball teammate. Having seen him play basketball, we can tell you he has a great body and good feet and hands for a lineman. If we can base such a thought off just one high school basketball game, he looks more like a tackle than a tight end to us. He has a couple MAC offers already. Nice kid, too.

Maurice Woodard: The West Lafayette High School running back was on the fast track to getting an offer from Danny Hope, seemed like, and will hope for one from Darrell Hazell now. We've heard him favorably compared to former Purdue running back Brandon Jones.

C.J. Hilliard: The Cincinnati running back has a couple BCS offers already.

Kyle Loechel: We've heard Purdue really likes the Cathedral linebacker. Thought he looked pretty good at that Best of the Midwest event Monday.

Michael Barwick: The Cincinnati DT has been offered by IU and a couple MAC teams.

Terry McLaurin: The Cathedral receiver is fast as hell. He got a junior day event after word got out that he ran a 4.44 in Indy Monday.

Donovan Clark: The safety from Fort Wayne South Side already has an Indiana offer. He looks like a player and ran a decent 4.6-somethng Monday.

Tinsahe Bere: The Cincinnati linebacker has Illinois, Iowa and MAC offers. He had a reported offer from Purdue's old staff.

Blake Hance: The Illinois tight end has offers from Illinois, North Carolina State and Wyoming.

Nick Allegreti: The Illinois offensive guard has Illinois and Cincinnati offers. At Lincoln Way East, he'd have played against Purdue defensive end signee Evan Panfil, who played at Central.

Martayveus Carter: UPDATE: The East Chicago athlete was just added this morning, as he and some ECC teammates may come down if they can find rides. Purdue is Carter's favorite going into this.

Can't claim to know much about any of these guys yet, but Purdue does, and we'll see what happens this weekend in terms of offers. (BN)

Not quite sure how to put this, but the Brandon Garner commitment is very much up in the air. Not sure that is going to happen.

You'll recall that the linebacker from Texas committed to commit to Purdue before Hazell had really gotten established in West Lafayette.

That one was on shaky ground to begin with and got weird when some teammates at his high school who aren't really even prospects started tweeting about committing to Purdue, too.

Fun stuff. (BN)

On the defensive line coaching front, to reiterate what we reported earlier this week, Jackie Shipp is supposed to interview some time soon. Don't know when that is exactly, but that would be a big hire on paper.

Shipp's was at OU since 1999 before being part of Bob Stoops' renovation of his staff the past couple years. We have heard that Shipp was let go in large part because he didn't always mesh well with new coordinator Mike Stoops, so this isn't a job performance thing.

Provided the interview goes well, Purdue would probably be happy to take a coach of his credentials. He's won national titles at Oklahoma and coached numerous All-Americans and pros. He's very well respected in coaching circles, seems like.

If Shipp winds up at Purdue - he'll also interview at Arizona State - he almost certainly would not coach special teams, a title yet to be filled on the Boilermaker staff.

The title then would presumably go to one of the previously hired coaches, or we guess it's not outside the realm of possibility Hazell would take it himself. As is always the case with college staffs, special teams is a staff-wide deal. (BN)

Small update on 2015 point guard Hyron Edwards, who's made multiple unofficial visits to Purdue this season: A source close to him told us earlier this week that Michigan and Michigan State are believed to have a bit of an edge at this early stage, though neither have offered a scholarship yet, and that a great deal of Indiana influence is being imposed on him through his AAU program, which is not a surprise whatsoever.

So Purdue may have some catching up to do there, though that class is so loaded with guard targets that there is absolutely, positively no one guy Purdue must have as long as it gets somebody good. Point guard is a priority in the 2015 class. (BN)

Join us tomorrow at 2 p.m. for 'Gold and Black LIVE' with our special guests, Purdue sports performance coach Duane Carlisle and new linebackers coach Marcus Freeman. We will talk about, uh, sports performance and linebackers, probably.

This is some high-level television right here, far and away the finest hour-long, Purdue-related Internet talk show available in this particular time slot. We challenge you to find one better.

If you can't join us at 2, a replay will be posted around dinnertime. (staff)

Also, for those of who simply can't get enough of the soothing sound of Kyle Charters' voice, be sure to tune in Monday morning at 10 a.m. for our new feature, 'Gold and Black Radio.'
