Fant talks Iowa official visit
George Fant was on the fence about visiting Iowa this past weekend. Thanks to some last minute persuasion by the Iowa coaching staff, the 6-foot-6 forward from the Class of 2011 made the trip to Iowa City and he is happy he made the visit.
"The visit was kind of last minute, but I am glad that I went to Iowa," Fant said. "I had a real good time on the visit."
The Bowling Green, Kentucky native arrived in Iowa City on Friday evening and spent time with the Iowa players and got to know them better. Then on Saturday he attended an afternoon basketball game between the Iowa players. From there he was off to Kinnick Stadium in the evening to watch Iowa play Penn State.
"The football game was wild. The fans did this black and gold thing in the stands and it looked great."
The Iowa coaches also presented their sales pitch to Fant while he was on his visit and he seemed receptive to what they had to offer.
"They told me that they want to build the program back to where it was in the past and have the same type of atmosphere I saw at the football game," Fant said. "They said that they want me to come to Iowa and that I could help them build the type of team they want."
Ironically, Fant had recently made an official visit to Penn State. While he didn't want to compare the two visits, he said that they were both very good. This weekend he is scheduled to visit Georgia and is also considering Alabama and Western Kentucky in his top five.
"I don't have a favorite right now. All five schools are still in there and then I'll probably make a decision in a couple of weeks," he said.
