NFL Boilers: Kerrigan big again in Week 4

Ryan Kerrigan is following his successful NFL rookie campaign with an even better sophomore year.

The second-year Redskins' linebacker has three-and-a-half sacks this season, with three passes defensed. He's becoming a dominant player in Washington, even without two of the 'skins other defensive stars.

Kerrigan is on pace for 14 sacks and 48 tackles this season.

• Even though his team lost yet another game, dropping to 0-4, Drew Brees had a great day in Green Bay. And he tied a long-standing NFL record, as well.

• Four former Boilermakers are missing time due to injuries, and a fifth was forced to leave a game early on Sunday.

But Cliff Avril should be fine for the Lions' game following their bye, after tests on his injured back came back negative.

Dallas linebacker Anthony Spencer tried to go for the Cowboys Monday night, but his injury kept him out.

And Dustin Keller, who has been injured since making his first catch of the season for the Jets, could be back soon. His return, one would think, would help out the woeful New York offense.

The heartwarming story of Jacques Reeves' return to the NFL has come to a disappointing ending. The Kansas City cornerback was injured reserve due to a hamstring injury.

• Packers' defensive lineman Mike Neal is set to return from his four-game league-imposed suspension.

But before he suits up, he'll have a one-week tryout in Green Bay. The Packers want to make sure Neal is ready to help, before they make a move to add him to the official 53-man roster.

Neal has barely played, because of injury and suspension, since Green Bay drafted him a couple years ago.

• Even before the game Monday night, when Tony Romo threw five interceptions, Kyle Orton was looking like a good insurance policy for the Cowboys.

• Chicago tight end Kyle Adams got a start Monday night - the Bears started in a three-tight end formation - but didn't catch a pass. He has two receptions on the season.

He's building a nice future for himself, and for others, in large part due to his play and his faith.

• Ray Edwards was fined for his involvement in a fracas - replacement officials were partly to blame - a couple weeks ago.

The following is a look at the NFL Boilers, their roles and their Week 4 statistics.
