Latter climbs aboard

Charlotte (NC) Vance cornerback Jaylen Latter joined the train of Demon Deacon pledges for 2013 when he committed to the Black and Gold Sunday, Jan. 20 at 11:30 AM during his official visit to Wake Forest.

"First it was the school," Latter said. "I love the school and the coaches and the players. I had a lot of chemistry with them."

"We went to the locker room [and] Coach had our jerseys up there. I was like this must be for real. And I met some of the professors. They seem like pretty good people."

He spent time with Wake Forest head coach Jim Grobe before he left Winston-Salem Sunday morning.

"It was pretty good," Latter said. "He just wanted to know what I wanted to do, and I told him that I wanted to go to Wake Forest. It was a really quick process. They were excited."

"Coach said this upcoming class is a good class, so we should be winning some games. That got me excited and ready to play again."

Tylor Harris was Latter's host during his official visit.

"It was good," Latter said. "We're about the same age, so we connected real well."

Latter said he ate dinner, toured the campus and ate then some more during his time at Wake.

He has been in touch with Wake's secondary coach Tim Duffie since he camped with the Deacs last summer. Latter returned to Winston-Salem for unofficial visit Thursday, Oct. 25 to see Wake Forest play Clemson.

Latter, a 6-feet and 185-pound prospect, added Duffie wants him to be ready to play right away, and give his best effort.

"I played quarterback, so I can read plays pretty well," Latter said. "I have pretty good speed, so that's my advantage."

Rivals.com rates Latter as a two-star recruit.
