AUBURN | Brandon King loves playing football, but he loathes the idea of marketing himself to college programs.

He didn't spend much time considering Auburn.

"I had one visit set up," said King, an Alabaster native who spent the past two seasons at Highland Community College in northeast Kansas. "I'm not big on going on visits. Some guys want to go on as many as they can. After high school, I was pretty much fed up with it. I just wanted to lock it in when I could get the chance."

King grew up favoring Auburn and spent his childhood dreaming of becoming a star inside Jordan-Hare Stadium. Still, his lone visit to Auburn during his senior year at Thompson High was less than enthralling.

"I didn't like it," King said. "I pretty much made up my mind that I wasn't going to come back to Auburn."

Eager to avoid dalliances, King committed to South Alabama last summer. Auburn was recruiting him at that point, but he didn't sense that its interest was anything more than token.
