Smith lists top two

Perris (Calif.) Citrus Hill standout Greg Smith is one of the top prospects from the Inland Valley this year. Citrus Hill is one of the emerging programs in the Inland Empire. Smith's play has been a big reason for the Hawks back to back undefeated seasons and league championships.

Smith plays linebacker and tight end for the Hawks. For his play on defense Smith was named all-league and second team all-CIF as a junior after compiling 11 sacks. This season he was named all-league and first-team all-CIF at linebacker.

On offense Smith was also a big contributor, with 33 catches and 12 touchdowns from his tight end spot. He also scored two rushing touchdowns while lining up at fullback and is a standout on special teams where he blocked four punts this year.

The 6-foot-3 240 pounder is said to run the 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds. Smith has reported offers from Fresno State, New Mexico, San Diego State, UTEP and Washington State

Smith recently picked up his second Pac-10 offer and plans on visiting the program this weekend.

"Recruiting is going great," Smith said. "I am going out to Arizona State this weekend. I feel really good about this visit. Coach Lubick is recruiting me for ASU. They just came out to see me and they offered me. They want me for defensive end. Most of the other schools like me at tight end.

"ASU has an up and coming defense. They have a few big names there already and some more on the way. They have a good program. In fact I would say that is a really dang good program down there."

Smith has already officially visited UTEP, where his best friend Jamie Irving plays.

"My top two are Arizona State and Fresno State," Smith said. "I am also going to set up trips to San Diego State and New Mexico. Oregon, Oregon State and Utah have also been showing me some interest lately but they have not offered."

Smith plans to make some more visits before he makes a final decision.

"I am not sure if I would commit this weekend," Smith said. "I want to check out what kind of environment each program has and get to meet the coaching staff. I really think I need to check out Fresno State before I make a decision. I think I will make my decision after I make my visit to Fresno."
