Interest picking up in Arkansas lineman

Recruiting started out slow for Jason King.

King didn't panic, though. Instead, the 6-foot-4, 302-pound offensive guard from Little Rock (Pulaski Academy), Ark., sent out more film and hit the camp circuit.

The results appear to be positive.

"It's kind of our fault," King said. "We got my stuff out kind of late, but a bunch of coaches came to see and coaches seem to like me so I'm going to go around to a few places this summer and see how it goes."

King has picked up offers from Kansas, Louisiana Tech, Arkansas State and Central Arkansas. Earlier this month, King was in Oxford, Miss., for Ole Miss' elite camp.

"(Ole Miss special teams coordinator/tight ends) Coach (James) Shibest seems like a really good coach," said King, referring to the coach on the Rebels' staff responsible for recruiting Arkansas prospects. "I like him, and he makes sure to call (Pulaski Academy) Coach (Kevin) Kelly a lot to check on me. I like it at Ole Miss. I came to a junior day and toured everything. I like it."

Like Ole Miss, Arkansas is also evaluating King.

"I've been up there a few times and I just have to go show them what I can do this summer, too," King said.

An offer from either the Rebels or Razorbacks, King said, would be meaningful. However, he wouldn't necessarily jump at the opportunity to play in the Southeastern Conference.

"SEC, to me, is obviously the place to go for football and I'd love to play in the SEC, but at the same time, I'm going to go around pretty much to every school I can and look around a lot this summer," King said. "Wherever I feel most comfortable is where I'm going to end up."

King, who plays offensive tackle at Pulaski, said some schools have talked to him about playing defensive line in college. However, he expects to simply move into the interior on offense.

"I'm probably going to end up playing guard in college," King said. "That's what I've talked to a lot of schools about."
