'It just felt right'

Georgia nabbed a big-time target for its 13th commitment of the 2012 class after Baltimore (Md.) Boys Latin School offensive tackle Greg Pyke told head coach Mark Richt Friday that he wants to be a Georgia Bulldog.

"I talked to Coach (Will) Friend, to Coach Richt. We talked about where I am in the recruiting process and, well, I like it a lot. Actually I just committed," Pyke said. "Just after today's visit, I just knew. It was just everything. The school, the academics, the football program - it's not going to be any better. I am a Georgia Dawg now."

The No. 2 offensive line prospect in Maryland's decision is a huge get for the Dawgs' offensive line.

It was only two short months ago that the 6-foot-6, 300-pound target impressed the coaching staff at the Mark Richt camp with his abilities on the line to earn himself an offer.

It was Pyke's first trip back to Athens since the camp, and he actually ended up arriving sooner than expected.

"We were actually on our way to Virginia Tech when we heard on the news someone had a gun on campus. You can't make that stuff up," Pyke said. "If it happened once, it can happen again. So we just kept driving. Came here and saw the campus. My parents love it. I mean, we have family here. It just felt right."

Once he had his parents stamp of approval, Pyke said he was ready to pull the trigger and make it official.

"I don't have to worry about recruiting or anything like that now. I'm a Dawg," said Pyke.

He is the third offensive lineman to commit to Georgia, joining Bolles School tackle John Theus and guard Chester Brown of Bradwell Institute.
