Marve implicated in Miami report

Purdue quarterback Robert Marve is one of 72 current and former University of Miami football players implicated in the Yahoo! Sports report that shook college athletics Tuesday afternoon and evening.

The report alleges that while with the Hurricanes prior to transferring to Purdue, Marve accepted impermissible benefits from booster Nevin Shapiro, who disclosed eight years worth of involvement with Miami athletes to Yahoo! Sports.

Shapiro is incarcerated for his role in a nearly billion-dollar Ponzi scheme.

Through a spokesman, Purdue declined comment on Marve's involvement or concerns about his eligibility.

The Boilermaker fifth-year senior transferred to Purdue prior to last season, after spending two seasons at Miami. He sat out 2009 per NCAA transfer rules, then played in four games last season before injuring his knee.

His potential role for 2011 has appeared in question as he's been slow to recover from surgery and has been treated delicately during training camp.
