Top players set for Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge

MORE: R100 Five-Star Challenge growing roster
Rivals/VTO camp coverage

Rivals.com is already the nation's leader in football recruiting coverage and now it is taking the camp circuit by storm this summer with the inaugural Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge.

The Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge will be the preeminent camp focusing on the top prospects from the 2013 class with a sneak peek at some of the best 2014 recruits as well.

The inaugural Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge will be held June 22-24 at Lakewood Stadium in Atlanta, Ga., comprised of 100 prospects from four different regions of the country, including many of the highest-ranked players in the land.

With registration having just recently opened, the talent already signed up for the camp is outstanding. Rivals.com National Recruiting Analyst Mike Farrell is excited about the fast start.

"So far the response has been amazing as we have targeted and found top prospects from around the country who all want to compete against the best," Farrell said on Tuesday morning. "With 15 players already committed just a few days after invites have gone out, we have also received verbal confirmation and interest from so many others. We knew this would be a successful venture because Rivals.com is the industry leader and no one can provide more coverage for top prospects than our group of analysts and our team site publishers, but I'm very excited about the early response."

The Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge will feature a 7-on-7 tournament as well as a lineman challenge for the big men. With the early signups, the 7-on-7 event especially is on pace to be an outstanding competitive environment.

""We have the nation's top two cornerbacks in Kendall Fuller from Maryland and Cameron Burrows from Ohio all set to compete as well as the nation's No. 1 wide receiver in Ricky Seals-Jones so you can imagine those matchups," Farrell said. "We have the nation's No. 1 quarterback in Max Browne leading the West squad and wide receivers are lining up to play with him and represent his region.

RIVALS NATIONAL UNDERCLASSMEN CHALLENGE
Rivals.com isn't done with the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge. The nation's leader in recruiting coverage also is pleased to announce the invite-only Rivals.com National Underclassmen Challenge, which will be held July 8 in Dallas. More details will be forthcoming in the weeks ahead.
"Cornerback Chris Hawkins from California has been amazing on the camp circuit already and Jalin Marshall and Laquon Treadwell will be hard to lock down for anyone as a 1-2 punch. We know what competitors linebacker Dorian O'Daniel and defensive back Jalen Tabor are as well as cornerback Antwuan Davis. Also, the two running backs from Virginia, Derrick Green and Taquan Mizzell both bring different things to the table."

Seals-Jones plays quarterback and defensive back for his high school but will play wide receiver at Texas, the school to which he is committed. Rivals.com Southwest Recruiting Analyst Brian Perroni says the opportunity to compete at receiver has spurred his competitive drive.

"Every kid wants to be a five-star prospect on Rivals.com," Perroni said. "Seals-Jones realizes that, even though he is ranked as the nation's top wide receiver, he will not be able to move to five-star status without being seen playing the position. He was really excited to have a chance to showcase his abilities from the spot against the nation's best and prove he belongs in that five-star discussion.

"Several other prospects are looking forward to the possibility of earning a fifth star as well. Having a chance to go against the best of the best in the country will certainly afford them that opportunity to do so."

The group of offensive and defensive linemen is shaping up quite well and there look to be some very good battles in the trenches set to take place.

"Ethan Pocic is the first offensive lineman to say he's ready for all challengers and I'm impressed with that," Farrell said. "For 2014 we have two very likely five-star defensive linemen in Da'Shawn Hand and Andrew Brown from Virginia with Hand the possible No. 1 player overall in the 2014 class."

With top prospects adding their names to the registration sheet every day, the talent level on display should likely make the Five-Star Challenge the most star-studded event ever put on.

"So far we have 9 players in the Rivals100, every 2013 prospect is in the Rivals250 and we already have some of the top 2014 prospects in the country," Farrell said. "This is an exciting start.

"I'm very impressed with the states of Virginia and Maryland so far as well as Illinois and Ohio, they have stepped up and said, 'We are ready to show what we have'. Now it's time to see if the players from Florida, Texas and California as well as other areas around the country are ready to step up as well. This event is clearly going to be amazing and the individual matchups that are developing are going to be fun to watch."
