Kickin' with Kitch: Land of beer and cheese

Heading back up to the land of cheese and beer to play a team that has dominated the Boilers in recent memory. Wisconsin has won seven in a row dating back to 2004, which is a game Boiler Nation will never forget.

Since that game, Purdue has really struggled against the Badgers and most of the games have not even been close. The past two years have been a couple of the worst beatdowns this school has ever had.

I think this game will be very interesting. Purdue is coming off a game in which it played much better and really dominated but could not make the big play when needed. Wisconsin is coming off getting a very raw deal at ASU and feeling like it was robbed of a victory. Purdue fans have seen this before where we play really well against ND and then fall apart the very next week. I remember being utterly embarrassed standing on the sideline in Madison two years ago. This team should be able to draw on that embarrassment to not let it happen again.

This year we do the postgame interview a little different with Coach Hazell. Instead of being in the media room with all the others around, we are in a private room in Mackey. It also seems as though we go to commercial the very second that Coach walks in so that gives me a few minutes to chat with him before we go on air. I have enjoyed this as we are still getting to know each other. I was really interested to see how Coach reacted after last week's game. We had a team that played so much better than the first two weeks yet we had a chance to win and did not. Was he going to be happy with the effort and progress or disappointed with not getting the win? I could tell as soon as he walked in that he was very disappointed to walk off the field without the win. I was so happy to see that. We are not in the business of moral victories; we are in the business of scoreboard victories.

Those victories are not far off. I think we saw a team start to figure it out last week. My confidence is growing in this staff each week and I believe the players' confidence is growing as well. I can't wait to be back up in Camp Randall. It's a great atmosphere with a tremendously loyal and loud fan base. I have visions of Craig Terrill blocking a field goal and Ashante Woodyard taking that block to the house for the win. I was never so happy to be at the bottom of a dog pile. Play to Win!
