NFL Boilers: Call helps Brees in Week 11

Drew Brees has been the source of a bit of controversy this week, following a hit he took during the Saints' win over the 49ers Sunday.

Late in the back-and-forth game, 49er Ahmad Brooks sacked Brees, causing a fumble that was recovered by San Francisco. But officials threw a flag, ruling that Brooks had hit Brees across the neck.

It was certainly violent, but was it a penalty. Brooks doesn't think so. Neither does future Hall of Famer Ray Lewis, who pointed out Brees' height, among other things, were factors during a rant on "Monday Night Countdown" on ESPN.

So, what do you think: Legal or not?

The Broncos might have gotten the steal of 2013 free agency in linebacker Shaun Phillips.

Signing only a one-year, $1-million deal, Phillips leads Denver in sacks, with nine, after getting one-and-a-half against Kansas City on Sunday night.

He's already received a $400,000 bonus after reaching eight sacks, and will get another when he gets to 10.

After starting two straight games, reserve right tackle Mike Otto was on the sideline as an inactive for the Titans on Sunday.

Another week, another fine for Bernard Pollard.

Dennis Kelly hasn't played in a game this season for the Eagles, but he is ready to go if Philly needs him.

Kelly had missed the first half of the year after sustaining a back injury.

Jason Garrett says he wishes he would have gotten Kyle Orton in late in the Cowboys' blow-out loss to New Orleans.

Orton has played on only one game, for one series, the last season-and-a-half in Dallas.

Ryan Kerrigan isn't very good at movember.

The following is a look at the NFL Boilers, their roles and their Week 11 statistics.
