Johnson hire official

Taver Johnson is expected to arrive on Purdue's campus next week to start work as the team's secondary coach.

He was announced officially by the school on Friday as Jon Heacock's replacement. Heacock left the Boilermakers after one season to become Toledo's defensive coordinator.

Johnson comes to Purdue after spending two seasons at Arkansas, serving as defensive backs coach in 2013 and the assistant head coach/linebackers coach in 2012.

"(Johnson) will bring energy and passion to that group," Darrell Hazell said in a statement. "Taver has a wealth of experience from major college football as well as the NFL. I've seen him work up-close and in-person and love what he brings."

Hazell spent four seasons alongside Johnson at Ohio State from 2007-2010, Hazell coaching receivers and Johnson coaching cornerbacks. Johnson was with the Buckeyes in 2011 as well before leaving for Arkansas.
