New point guard target emerges

LOUISVILLE - Point guard is a priority for Purdue in its 2015 class and a new target has emerged.

Justin Robinson, a 6-foot-1 guard from Saint James School in Maryland and the Boo Williams Nike summer program, has been watched closely by Boilermaker coaches the past two weeks, first at the Peach Jam in North Augusta, S.C., then this week at AAU Nationals in Louisville.

A scholarship offer might be forthcoming for the Rivals.com three-star prospect.

"Once my transcripts go through, I think they might offer me," Robinson said. "Then we'll go from there."

A Purdue offer would join a long list that also includes, according to Robinson, Maryland, Virginia Tech, Creighton, Illinois, Providence, Memphis, UNLV, George Washington and several others.

Purdue's been involved with Robinson since the spring when an injury - he broke a bone in his ankle - disrupted the beginning of his final year on the AAU circuit.

Robinson said he'd be open to any new offers that come his way, though he does plan to narrow his focus in the near term.

"There's schools that have maybe prioritized me, but my recruitment's wide open right now," Robinson said. "I'm just going to sit down with my high school coaches and Coach Boo (Williams) and talk about what might be the best fit for me, then cut my list down to maybe eight to 10 and make a decision after that.

"I'm still getting calls every day, but honestly, I think it's time to sit down and cut the list down at the end of the month, then probably go on my officials and call it a day."

Robinson's decision will probably come down to his official visits, he said. Should Purdue offer Robinson, its next step would be to try to secure one of those visits.

"It'll just be the schools recruiting me most and who I've had the most contact with," Robinson said of choosing his visits. "Then when I go on my officials, I'll just look for a school that has a great education, a family environment on and off the court and coaches that know what it takes to get to the next level."

To this point, Robinson's gotten calls and text messages from Purdue associate head coach Jack Owens and seen Boilermaker coaches around his games this month.

"All these schools sound good," Robinson said after Boo Williams beat All-Iowa Attack Friday night in Freedom Hall, "but their coaches sound great already. It might be a good fit."
