Shrine Bowl 2003: DT Gerard Miller

Gerard Miller

Defensive End

6-4, 265 pounds, 4.7-seconds in the 40-yard dash

West Craven High School, Vanceboro, NC

Rating- Miller is rated a three-star prospect and the No. 26 weak-side DE in the nation by Rivals.com

Shrine Bowl Stats- 4 total tackles, 2 tackles for loss totaling 11 yards, one QB hurry, one batted pass and one sack

Miller lined up at DE and was very active throughout the Shrine Bowl. He came on particularly strong in the third quarter when he registered a tackle for loss and a sack on consecutive plays. Miller is very quick off the edge and runs well. He did not give up on any plays and beat all-american OL Corey Lambert on several plays. If he maintains his current weight, he could become a force for the Wolfpack at DE down the road. Should he put on some weight, he could become a very quick DT down the road.

Miller on his week at the Shrine Bowl- “Practice went real good but I didn’t know we were going to have to get up that early. We got up about 5:30 am every morning to get ready for practice. We had some real good practices and we all pretty much became a family.”

Miller on the “recruiting” that goes on between different players- “I’ve been talking to some of the boys but it’s a big rivalry thing because there’s some going to Maryland or Virginia and I’m going to NC State, so we all want to represent our teams. There’s been a lot of junk talking going on. The way I feel about NC State is the way they feel about their team. We’ve got about five people here that want to go to NC State and there’s a couple that’s undecided but after they take their visits, I think they’ll make their decision after that.”

Miller on who stood out during practice- “Everybody is out here because they have talent. Some might stand out more than others but they all produce. I think we got some of the best RB’s I’ve ever seen in my life. The DL is real good. Marque (Hall), he’s real cool and we just found out today we made all-state.
