30 Days to Purdue Football: Jack Ansell

There is a trend lately in college football of schools developing punters from Australia and New Zealand. What was once a rarity is now common, as there are entire networks set up to get players who are familiar with Aussie rules football to America to punt for NCAA teams. In fact, most of the Big Ten now has an Australia punter. Purdue is no different.

Ansell has come a long way in now his third year in West Lafayette. In 2021 he split duties with Brendan Cropsey and Zac Collins as Purdue tried out three different punters. He still handeled most of hte duties, but he only averaged just over 38 yards per punt. Last seaosn was much better. He punted 55 times for an average of 41.93 yards, but he only put 13 inside the 20.

Entering year three he was recently named to the Ray Guy Award watch list. He has shown improvement each year so far. Cropsey is still on the roster and could have a few opportunities (he punted twice last year), but it is Anzell's job for the most part.
