Another Western Kentucky commit follows Jeff Brohm to Purdue

Darius Pittman, a three-star tight end prospect who'd previously been committed to Jeff Brohm at Western Kentucky, wasn't planning to make his switch to Purdue official until the end of the month.

The plan changed Wednesday, when he announced he'd sign with the Boilermakers, another part of a busy recruiting week for Purdue's new coach.

The 6-foot-3, 230-pounder from St. Stanislaus in Bay Saint Louis, Miss., was offered by Purdue soon after Brohm made the move and his mind was immediately made up.

"No matter who offered me," Pittman said, "I was pretty solid with Purdue."

Because, he said, of Brohm and his offense.

"He's been an impressive and successful coach," Pittman said. "His offense is what I want to play in."

Brohm's spread-style offense is known for being heavily pass-oriented, something that obviously appeals to Pittman.

"A tight end like me is ready to get open and catch passes," Pittman said. "I love the spread offense. I can block as well, but I'm better at running routes and catching the ball.

"I play tight end but I'm a big sized receiver that can run routes and catch passes. I believe that's why I fit well."

Pittman is the second Western Kentucky commitment to follow Brohm to Purdue, joining offensive lineman Jalen Jackson, who was slated to sign with Purdue this week as a mid-year enrollee. Purdue also offered on Wednesday Hilltopper defensive end commitment Giovanni Hightower.

Before committing to WKU, Pittman had also been offered by Colorado State, Southern Miss, Louisiana Tech, Tulane and many others.
