Defensive lineman slated for official visit this weekend

More: Purdue commitment list

Months after he says he was ready to commit to Purdue, Devin Bell expects to officially visit the Boilermaker program this weekend.

The Alabama defensive end and Western Kentucky commitment was visited last week by head coach Jeff Brohm and co-defensive coordinator Nick Holt.

"I picked up an offer from Purdue this summer, but I picked up a new Twitter account, and lost contact with them," Bell said. "Originally, that's where I was going to commit this summer. But after I lost contact with them, it fell off. It was about three weeks ago I finally got back in touch with them, so we're starting the process over.

"As of now, I'm sticking with Western Kentucky, but anything can happen."

The 6-foot-5, 230-pounder from Goshen High School said he'd also like to visit Florida International.

As with fellow Purdue weekend and anticipated weekend visitor Austin Alexander, Bell has a limited background in football, having only played two seasons now.

"Last year was my first year playing football and I think I had a great season last year and then had another great season this year," said Bell, who finished his senior season with 12 sacks among his 61 tackles. "(Purdue) said that if they work with me, they think I can become a monster for them, because I'm not fully developed and they think I have a lot of raw talent."

With that ability would obviously come potential.

"My 11th grade year was just all athleticism, no fundamentals or any of that," Bell said. "But this year, I stepped it up with my fundamentals and using the things I'd learned at camps. I learned how to use my hands more. I already had a lot of quickness, so I've used my feet pretty well."

"If I work, I feel like I can be as good as I want to be."
