About Purdue
Purdue's coming off a 78-46 win over a Northern State team that turned around the next night and won at Butler on a buzzer-beater.
It was an uneven showing for the Boilermakers, despite the final margin.
Purdue was matched in the rebounding column and made only three three-pointers on 23 tries and allowed Northern State to shoot a staggering 31 free throws.
Needless to say, these have been points of emphasis in practice the past few days.
Robbie Hummel led Purdue with 18 points and seven rebounds in just 15 minutes.
This exhibition finale will be the last opportunity for the coaching staff to evaluate potential redshirt candidates, so freshmen Donnie Hale and Jacob Lawson - and classmate Neal Beshears, who'll probably redshirt anyway - have their final chances to make a case for playing time in a game situation before a decision has to be made.
About the Opponent
USI is ranked No. 12 in Division II, coming off a 24-6 season. Last season, Southern Indiana was led by former troubled Illinois standout Jamar Smith, who's since departed.
Coach Rodney Watson was a long-time assistant coach at Southern Illinois, where he worked for four different Saluki coaches, including Purdue coach Matt Painter in his one season at SIU's head coach. Watson also worked with current Purdue assistant coach Jack Owens while in Carbondale.
Worth Noting
Purdue last lost an exhibition game Nov. 5, 2002, when it fell 83-64 to the Harlem Globetrotters, more like a pro team than an exhibition team.
