After a touchdown in his first college game on Sept. 3, freshman back Brian Lankford-Johnson was thinking big.

Even if Markell Jones was in front of him on the depth chart, Lankford-Johnson figured an eye-opening Week 1 performance would produce more snaps the next week. It didn't. Or in the next. Or the next. Or the next.

But when Jones missed last week's game at Illinois with shoulder injury, Lankford-Johnson stepped into the starting lineup and delivered a 127-yard rushing performance in Purdue's 34-31 overtime victory against the Illini.
