In the end, home won out for new Purdue commit

"Purdue's home," Truitt said. "It's been my home for 18 years. My family is three generations on both sides Purdue grads, so it's been part of my life the entire time. It's nice to be home.

"I love the coaches. The coaching staff is great. I love Coach Hazell, Coach (John) Shoop and Coach (Jim Bridge) and am really excited to learn from Coach Bridge specifically. From an offensive line standpoint he's really going to help me grow as a player. Also, the school is great for what I want to study, supply chain management. Purdue has an excellent program for that. And then there's just the atmosphere in West Lafayette. I've lived here 18 years and love it. It's home."
The local prospect had been committed to Miami (Ohio) since the spring, but landed a Purdue offer in June after standing out at the program's lineman camp. Since, Truitt was diligent and process-oriented with recruiting, doing thorough research and visiting for several practices during training camp before deciding this weekend to switch.
"I have a lot of respect for Miami," Truitt said. "It's a great place and I love the coaches there and everything. I did go through a thorough process. It was a hard decision, by far the hardest decision I've ever had to make in my life. But I sat down with my parents multiple times, laid out all the scenarios, made matrix charts of every single aspect of both universities. I went back and forth, slept on the decision multiple times, but ultimately, I'm happy to be a Boilermaker."
The 6-foot-5, 297-pounder said Purdue recruited him simply as an "offensive linemen," with tackle or guard being the most likely projections.
"They like the way I play," Truitt said of Purdue. "They think I'm nasty, big and tough. I'm looking forward to showing off those traits on the football field for West Lafayette this year, then in Ross-Ade (Stadium) for the next four or five years."
Truitt joins Chatard's Matt McCann as Purdue's line commitments.
