Linebacker announcing Wednesday afternoon

More: Purdue signees and commitments

Purdue could add a linebacker on Wednesday, which is the traditional national signing date.

Boilermaker coaches hosted Lakeland (Fla.) High School outside linebacker Jack Smith for an official visit this past weekend, and the three-star prospect will announce at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday between Purdue, Western Kentucky and Syracuse, Lakeland coach Will Bahler said.

Bahler said that the 6-foot-3, 200-or-so-pound outside linebacker has been offered a scholarship by Purdue.

Smith was previously committed to Syracuse, but reopened his recruitment on Jan. 16.

Purdue signed just one projected linebacker during the December signing period, Chicagoland's Jaylan Alexander.

It offered and targeted Georgia's Jayden McDonald in recent weeks, but he committed to Iowa Monday night.

Should Purdue land Smith, he would join Louisville offensive athlete/wide receiver Rondale Moore as Purdue signees Wednesday.
