NFL Boilers: Week 3

• Drew Brees is overseas preparing for the Saints' Week 4 game in London.

But New Orleans' QB made news here before he left, outlining the reasons he thinks players should stand for the National Anthem.

“I will always feel that if you are an American the national anthem is an opportunity for us all to stand up together, to be unified and show respect for our country and to show respect for what it stands for,” Brees said.

But Brees also said that President Donald Trump's words — he called out protesting players and said NFL teams should fire them — are "unbecoming of the office."

• Ricardo Allen missed the last 11 games of Atlanta's win at Detroit on Sunday after laying a big hit on a Lion receiver near the two-minute warning.

And now the Falcons' safety is in the concussion protocol, meaning he'll need to pass a cognitive test before playing in Week 4.

• Raheem Mostert got an offensive opportunities for the 49ers Sunday, when Carlos Hyde injured his hip.

But Mostert, a reserve running back and special teamer, fumbled one of his four carries.

• Guard Kevin Pamphile was active but didn't start for the Buccaneers Sunday after missing time during the week with an illness.

• Ryan Kerrigan has at least a half sack in each of the Redskins' first three games, a great start to his 2017 season.

Catch up with the Washington linebacker in this Q&A.
