NFL Boilers: Week 5
Following is a look at the NFL Boilers, news, notes and statistics, from Week 5.
• Cliff Avril's neck injury is serious and could potentially cost him the rest of the season.
Avril, 31, was inadvertently heeled in the chin during Seattle's game with Indianapolis in Week 4. And the defensive end was inactive for the Seahawks' game on Sunday. There's even some concern the injury could be career-ending.
Avril will undergo tests in the next couple weeks, then Seattle will reevaluate his status.
"We're going to do everything we can to help him for the long haul and not rush any decisions," Pete Carroll told SeattlePI.com. "He's a bright guy, got family, all kinds of support and all that. We'll make a real good decision, whatever it is. We'll have to wait and see."
• Tampa Bay D-end Ryan Russell could miss 2-to-4 weeks after suffering a dislocation of his shoulder during the Bucs' loss to New England on Thursday night.
• Ricardo Allen was back at Falcons' practice on Monday after clearing concussion protocol. The safety had missed Atlanta's Week 4 game before its bye. Barring a setback, he'll be able to play on Sunday vs. Miami.
• Dennis Kelly came in late for the Titans' injured left tackle.
Brees on Tiller, the 20-year reunion and Brohm
• Drew Brees is off to a hot start in 2017, throwing for eight touchdowns without an interception, and the Saints have won back-to-back games to get back to .500.
The Saints' QB says nerves help give him an edge.
