Offensive lineman commits to Purdue

New Mexico offensive lineman Grant Hermanns has committed to Purdue following a weekend official official visit, he announced on Twitter Sunday night.

The 6-foot-7, 265-pounder chose the Boilermakers over Hawaii and a walk-on opportunity at Baylor. He was previously committed to Iowa State before its coaching change.

"I want to do engineering and they have an awesome engineering program," Hermanns said last week, after being offered by Purdue, but before this weekend's visit. "They have good coaches and play in a great conference, and I think it might be a chance to play early because they might be short on offensive linemen. I might get to play three or four years in the Big Ten. Purdue's really a great opportunity for anyone."

Purdue recruited Hermanns as an offensive tackle.

"They said they feel like my best football is ahead of me," Hermanns said last week, "and they like that I'm a big guy and I have quick feet, which is always up-side for a tackle. And they said they like that I'm a 4.0 student, that that always helps too."

The Boilermaker coaching staff has been looking for offensive linemen late in the process after losing commitments from Dylan Powell and Luke Campbell. Campbell committed to Michigan State during the weekend.

Hermanns joins Florida DB Simeon Smiley as Purdue's two weekend commitments.
