Purdue lands a big one for first 2018 commitment

Purdue's first Class of 2018 commitment is a big one.

Four-star Detroit big man Trevion Williams announced on Thursday that he's committed to the Boilermakers, shortly after last week's unofficial visit to West Lafayette.

The 6-foot-9, 260-plus-pound center — his weight's been a moving target as he's recovered from a foot injury — chose Purdue over Xavier, Michigan State, Illinois and numerous other major-conference offers.

Ranked No. 95 in the 2018 class by Rivals.com, Williams has said often he's been drawn to Purdue because he sees himself fitting into the sort of role Caleb Swanigan starred in for the Boilermakers.

Williams' commitment is the first for Purdue toward what could be a class of up to five signees.
