Purdue Lands Commitment No. 1

During Purdue's Elite Quarterbacks Camp this week, Brandon Kirsch's dream came true.
The 6-foot-3, 195-pound quarterback from Cedar Crest High School in Lebanon, Pa., was offered a scholarship by Coach Joe Tiller, and his quickly accepted.

"I knew that if I came out there and they offered, that I was going to go there," Kirsch said. "I didn't know they'd offer me so early, though. It was a dream come true when Coach Tiller offered me."
Kirsch came to Purdue's QB camp last year with his coach, as well.
"I told him then that Purdue was where I wanted to go," Kirsch said. "This is the best opportunity for me as a quarterback."
Thus, his goal this time around was to impress Purdue's coaches enough to earn a scholarship offer.
"This year, I wanted to show off and catch their eye," Kirsch said. "Last year was a learning experience."
Kirsch had been offered scholarships by Maryland, Rutgers, Pittsburgh, Temple and several smaller schools. He was also slated to attend camps at Notre Dame, Syracuse and Virginia Tech.
"I was expecting offers from those schools," Kirsch said.
As a junior last season, Kirsch, who possesses 4.65 speed, threw for 1,595 yards and 20 touchdowns, while also rushing for 360 yards and five scores.
"I'm a drop-back quarterback who can pass, but I think I'm pretty mobile, too, and I can get away from defenders," Kirsch said.
Kirsch is Purdue's first verbal commitment for 2002.
