Purdue offers 2016 forward

Ohio Class of 2016 power forward Nick Ward was offered a scholarship by Coach Matt Painter Saturday after a strong showing at the camp. Purdue had watched him closely this summer, when Ward played for All-Ohio Red's 16-and-under team.

"They've been recruiting me hard," Ward said Saturday after the camp. "They came to all my Peach Jam games and all my (AAU) Super Showcase games."
The 6-foot-7, 235-pound forward from Gahanna (Ohio) Lincoln also has early offers from Michigan State, Missouri, Miami (Fla.), Dayton and others.
The Purdue offer was a significant one for him, he said.
"It's one of my highest ones," Ward said, shortly after receiving the offer.
"I love the school. It's a big school. I love the practice court they have and the facilities, the staff and everything."
Ward showed Saturday to be a physical presence around the rim.
"They like my finishing ability, but also my versatility," Ward said. "They like how I can dribble up the court and run the floor. They said I have improving athleticism but they like how strong I am and how I finish around the rim."
More from Purdue's elite camp to come later this evening.
