Purdue offers legend's son

Purdue extended an offer Wednesday to a very recognizable name.

Griffin Alstott, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound quarterback/athlete from Northside Christian in St. Petersburg, is the son of Boilermaker legend and NFL star Mike Alstott.

Griffin Alstott also holds offers from Akron, Troy, Coastal Carolina and Appalachian State early in the process.

Mike Alstott ran for 3,635 yards and 39 touchdowns for Purdue from 1992-95, and totaled 4,710 and 42, respectively, from scrimmage. He then played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1996-2007, earning six Pro Bowl nods and establishing himself as probably the finest NFL fullback of his generation.

He now coaches Northside Christian.
