Quick Count: Jeff Brohm's Week 6 press conference
Following are notes from Jeff Brohm's Monday press conference:
• Injury updates:
- T. J. McCollum was injured on the last play of the game, with Brohm saying he's "hopeful" that it won't cost the veteran linebacker much time. Brohm described the injury as "mostly an ankle, but slightly the knee."
McCollum could be back for Wisconsin, but Brohm wasn't confident, saying Purdue could know more by Tuesday.
- Wide receiver Terry Wright seems to be OK, after nicking the same shoulder that has given him issues in the past, including surgery. Wright's problem is in his fumbling, having done so now in each of the last two games. He didn't play again after Saturday's fumble.
- The hope, Brohm said, is that end Austin Larkin might be healthier this week after not practicing much leading into the Minnesota game.
- Running back Tario Fuller likely will continue to be out, after missing the last two games with an ankle injury.
"A pretty good bone bruise and he'll probably be out more. It's taken longer than we thought," Brohm said.
- The news might not be good on defensive tackle Keiwan Jones, who suffered a lower-body injury and potentially a severe one.
"Not looking good, (don't know fully yet), but it's probably a pretty good injury," Brohm said.
• Purdue plays undefeated Wisconsin at 3:30 p.m. ET in Madison.
The Badgers are good, Brohm said.
"They're very talented and play very hard," he said. "You can tell it on video. It's going to be a challenge for us.
"... It's an elite defense. They do a great job, not only in their scheme but their personnel. As good as they are, multiply by two of how hard they play."
• Purdue's defense has been much improved this season — that probably goes without saying — and it's a credit to Nick Holt and the rest of the defensive staff.
Brohm says the players have "bought in" to what Holt is preaching and they've responded.
"He knows how to motivate his guys, push his guys," Brohm said of Holt, "and has the right combination of fire while still teaching."
• Purdue had four first-half turnovers, but Brohm didn't seem overly concerned about a trend, encouraged that the Boilermakers cleaned up their act in the second half. They didn't have any turnovers then, coming back to beat Minnesota.
"We're definitely going to keep preaching ball security," Brohm said, "... but I'm going to keep being aggressive."
